Kittie Announce Special ‘Spit XXV’ EP to Mark Their Debut Album’s 25th Anniversary

Think back to where you were back in 2000. Feels like a lifetime ago, doesn’t it? Hell, most of you reading this are probably too young to even conceive what 25 years ago was like. (Spoilers: It at least felt better than our current hellscape.) For the women of Canadian metal act Kittie, 2000 was a momentous year — it was the year they broke into the scene with the release of their debut album Spit.

Now with 25 years behind them, the band announced that they’ll be releasing a special EP to mark the occasion. Enter Spit XXV.

Set for release on September 19 via Sumerian Records, Spit XXV will feature re-recorded versions of four tracks from the band’s debut: “Brackish,” “Charlotte,” “Do You Think I’m a Whore” and “Spit.” That last track in particular even got a music video that we’ve got posted down below. What makes these re-recorded versions all the more special is the fact that the band reunited with producer Garth Richardson, who served as the producer for Spit all those years ago.

While both looking back at the band’s beginning and where they’re at now, frontwoman Morgan Lander reflected on the entire Spit XXV project.

“It’s hard to believe that 25 years after its release, and almost 30 years since Kittie began, people are still talking about Spit. There is something truly unexplainable in why our debut album is still resonating with people, finding a new audience and has had such a lasting impact on so many.

“Reimagining some of these classic songs for the 25th anniversary of Spit was a lot of fun and a true testament to their longevity. It reveals just how relevant in the musical landscape they still are today. We were honored to work with Garth again where it all began after more than two decades, and doing so was a cool way to pay homage to the past while updating these songs with a modern sound, bringing them into the future.”
