Kansas City Chiefs President Says They Won’t Show Taylor Swift On Screen In The Stadium Or Play Her Music Because It’s “Awkward” For Travis Kelce

Gotta think the football fans are thankful for that one.

The Taylor Swift hype surrounding the Kansas City Chiefs has died down a bit since the pop megastar began dating Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce back in 2023, but early on in their relationship you couldn’t watch a Chiefs game without hearing her name or seeing Taylor on screen pretty much any time Kelce made a catch (or was even mentioned on the broadcast).

Taylor has still been attending Chiefs games this year, though she hasn’t been as visible lately due to security concerns, especially in light of the Charlie Kirk assassination back at the beginning of football season. But as it turns out, the Chiefs have always been extra careful about protecting the privacy of their most famous guest – and respecting the relationship of one of their biggest star players.

Chiefs President Mark Donovan recently sat down with Kay Adams on the Up and Adams Show, where he was asked about the relationship between Swift and Kelce. Donovan says the organization promised Kelce early on that they wouldn’t “monetize” his relationship with the pop star:

“Taylor’s been amazing to us. It’s been nothing but good. She is a phenomenon, but she is just a special, kind person. And my job early on in this was, and I told Travis this, like, ‘Look, we’re going to treat you and your relationship with the same respect that we treat any other player and coach’s relationship.’

It’s a relationship. Like, we’re not going to monetize it. We’re not going to go out there and go crazy.”

Now, I know what you’re thinking. We’ve all watched Chiefs games and had to see mentions of Swift or shots of her in her box next to Brittany Mahomes. But according to Donovan, that’s the NFL and the television networks, not the Chiefs. In fact, the team has never even showed Swift on the jumbotron at Arrowhead Stadium:

“All those shots you see of Taylor in the stadium, right? He scores a touchdown. He makes a catch. It goes to Taylor, especially the first year. We never showed Taylor on our big boards in our stadium.”

Not only have they never showed Swift on the big screen, they also make it a point not to play her music in the stadium when she’s in attendance:

“Never. It was respectful. It’s like, we’re not going to do that. We’re not taking advantage of this relationship. I joked with him early on in the first year, we never played a Taylor Swift song in the stadium when she’s in the building.”

Donovan points out how awkward it would be for Kelce if his now-fianceé’s song was playing in the stadium, but says that Kelce has been a champ about the whole thing (probably because he’s dating the world’s biggest pop star and nothing can really bother him).

“Travis, to his credit, is all about team, and he’s all about the guys, and he’s all about being a part of a team and not being separate. And he said, ‘That separates me.’ Like, when we’re playing a game, when we’re in that stadium, it’s about us, and I want it to be about us.”

I mean, can you imagine if they played the song about his dong after Travis scored a touchdown? The post Kansas City Chiefs President Says They Won’t Show Taylor Swift On Screen In The Stadium Or Play Her Music Because It’s “Awkward” For Travis Kelce first appeared on Whiskey Riff.
