Robert Sanchez endured a nightmare outing in Chelsea’s 2-1 defeat Manchester United after he was sent off just four minutes in. With the game still 0-0 at Old Trafford, the Chelsea defence failed to deal with a long ball, Sanchez rushed out and clattered Bryan Mbeumo. The referee had no hesitation and immediately sent Sanchez off The referee had no choice but to immediately reach for the top pocket and produce a red card. On talkSPORT’s Game Day Phone-In, Jamie O’Hara couldn’t believe what he was seeing. He said: “Oh my God! Oh my God! There is a massive moment!” He then added: “What is he doing Sanchez?” Co-host Jermaine Pennant interjected by saying: “Bit of a head loss there, wasn’t it? It’s unbelievable.” O’Hara then remarked: “Four minutes in, Chelsea are down to ten men!” After Pennant joked about where is O’Hara’s usual co-host Jason Cundy, O’Hara said: “He’s doing the commentary with Chelsea TV. “I can just imagine him now, his head’s going to be rolling. Oh, wow. Well, let’s see how that game’s going to go. “He did say to me, he said he fancied Man United because they’ve become a bit of a bogey team for Chelsea. “Well, four minutes in. Robert Sanchez sent off Stonewall. Red card. The captain got on the end of a clever Patrick Dorgu header to divert an effort beyond Jorgensen. There was a long VAR check to determine if Fernandes was offside. However, it was deemed that Trevoh Chalobah was just about keeping the Portuguese international onside. Initially, it wasn’t clear if this was tactical or injury-related, and it has now become apparent that he was struggling with a groin injury. Following the match, Sanchez took to Instagram to apologise to fans in a 21-word statement. It read: “On me today guys, big sorry for that, team put a massive effort on the second half but couldn’t get there.”
