“He Was Just As Hot As He Could Be” – Dolly Parton Once Streaked Through Tom Jones’ Yard In The ’80s

Dolly’s just a girl.

Dolly Parton has some great stories from her years in Hollywood, where she of course starred in classic films like 9 to 5 or Best Little Whorehouse in Texas in the ’80s, which was really the height of Dolly’s crossover popularity and appeal in pop culture.

But like what could happen with any girl and her friends during an evening on the town, Dolly had a pretty wild night after a few too many margaritas with her friends who were visiting while she was living at the Bel-Air Hotel, and they decided to stake out the house of Tom Jones, who Dolly says was “as hot as he could be back then.” During an appearance on Late Night with Conan O’Brien in 2001, Conan asked if the story of her streaking through Jones’ yard was true.

He’d heard rumors of it, but he thought surely it was made up or exaggerated, though Dolly confirmed that it happened because of a dare from her girlfriends. She pointed out Jones’ house to them, and they wanted to go check it out. Because they had a little buzz going, they dared Dolly to streak through his yard, and she eventually gave in because she was pretty sure it was during the filming of Best Little Whorehouse in Texas and she was in the mood for some, um, excitement:

“Yeah. This was many years ago now, I’ve mellowed out a little. This was when Tom Jones lived over in Bel-Air, I don’t know where he lives now. But he was just hot as he could be, sexy, and I had some friends out to Hollywood. I was living out there at the Bel-Air Hotel.

I think we were doing either ‘9 to 5’ or ‘Best Little Whorehouse,’ must’ve been ‘Best Little Whorehouse,’ because I was horny that night. I was daring, maybe dating would be a better word. But anyway, a bunch of girlfriends, and we were just out having fun and we’d been out and had a couple of margaritas. So I said, ‘This is Tom Jones’ house.’ and they said ‘Well, let’s go over there.’

And I said, ‘Oh, we can’t go in the yard. They must have security.’ and they dared me to streak through the yard, cause that was back when everybody was streaking. And they kept daring me, and double dog daring me, and I just couldn’t take it so I just stripped down and ran across the yard, and jumped back in the car and put my clothes on.”

Classic…

She never knew if he saw her, but she said she didn’t think she “impress him much,” though I would have to beg to differ with her there… this was peak Dolly and she was a total knockout (she still is, but you get the point):

“And I don’t think he saw me. If he did, I didn’t impress him much. But I did do it. But it was just fun, it was just a bunch of girls being stupid.”

I have to imagine, if he did have security cameras, he was (pleasantly) surprised to see Dolly in his yard, and if he didn’t he really missed out.

I love hearing stories about Dolly like this just having fun with her friends. She’s really just a girl… believe it or not, because I forget she’s human sometimes, but stories like this make me love her even more. Also, having margs with Dolly Parton? New life dream unlocked…
