In the wake of tragedy, Texas native Hayden Redwine hopes to use his talents to make a positive impact.

Following the tragic loss of a young family member not too long ago, Redwine took to songwriting as a means of expressing the heavy feelings he was struggling to articulate, as many songwriters tend to do when filled with emotion. The result was a poignant tune written solo by Redwine in which he grapples with loss and life thereafter, something that anyone who has dealt with the matter will be able to relate to.

Titled “The Quiet,” Redwine recorded a live cut of the song with Southbound Sessions and put it out on YouTube a couple of months ago. He never released it to streaming platforms, but just weeks later, the tragic floods transpired in Central Texas and the song took place another layer of meaning. Deciding he ultimately need to release the new track in hopes that it could help others deal with loss the way it helped him, Redwine’s “The Quiet” hit streaming platforms for all to hear today. He provided some valuable insight and context behind the song itself and the decision to release it:

“The life of this song so far has continually surprised me. I wrote it in an effort to try to somehow relay how I was feeling, and how I imagine my family was feeling, during a very dark time. When I posted a video of the song, I quickly realized the impact it had on others, but I didn’t know what to do with it. I had recorded this live take with Southbound Sessions months before the floods and the moment I heard about the devastation in Central Texas my heart just went out to every single person affected.

Feeling helpless and devastated, I turned back to the lyrics of this song thinking if I could only get them to reach a larger audience, they may really help someone through life’s unexpected tragedies. It was kind of a surreal feeling to revisit this song at such a time, but my main goal when releasing music is to try and reach people where they’re at and hope that in some way they feel connected to it. That’s always been my goal.”

And to take things a step beyond releasing music that has the power to help people in their darkest hour, Redwine has dedicated the proceeds of the song to Kerr County, Texas flood relief. While it is no secret that artists make next to nothing from streaming, unless they are getting billions of streams, Redwine indicated on instagram that more flood relief efforts related to this song may be in the works.

“This song was written shortly after we lost my nephew in February, and after the floods of Central Texas, it took on a lot of deeper weight, Thank you Southbound Sessions for helping get this out there.

All proceeds from this song will be donated to Kerr County Flood Relief. And although streaming pays less than pennies on the dollar, I have intentions to put something together around this that will help benefit Kerr County families.”

With all that context in mind, go ahead and give Redwine’s new single “The Quiet” a listen for yourself. I’ve included a link to the YouTube video, but make sure to go stream the song as well. Proceed with caution, though.

“Never thought I would end up here
And come face to face with what I fear
The clock keeps ticking slow and true
But time don’t mean a thing to you
If love is a river, you were the rain
Falling down on hearts that won’t be the same
There’s so much I just can’t explain
And it hurts so bad to hear your name”

This one isn’t for the faint of heart.
