In a recent social media post, long-time The Ocean guitarist David Ramis Åhfeldt announced that he was no longer content being in the band and as such was stepping down for good. Though he admitted that the decision was “purely personal” and that there was “no bad blood,” he simply said he felt it was his time to go.

Åhfeldt’s comments on why he decided to leave the band are as follows:

“I’ve decided to step down from my position as guitarist of The Ocean.

“The reasons are purely personal, and I want to be clear that there’s absolutely no bad blood between any of us. I love the guys deeply and will always be grateful for the experiences we’ve shared over the years.

“Without getting too deep into it, I’ve come to realize that I’m no longer happy being involved in the band — and that’s something I can’t ignore.

“That said, these past years have been an incredible ride, and I’m thankful to have met so many of you along the way. Your support has meant the world to me.

“I’ll be playing my final shows with the band soon, including an epic closing chapter show at @hellfestopenair . If you happen to be at any of the shows, please come and say hi — I’d love that.

“Much love to you all,
David”

Åhfeldt had initially joined The Ocean back in 2018 and was featured in both 2020’s Phanerozoic II: Mesozoic and 2023’s Holocene. As he said in his post, he plans on closing out his time with the band with a “closing chapter” show at Hellfest Open Air, which is taking place later this month.

This is now the second member to quit The Ocean, with drummer Paul Seidel having taken a similar action earlier this year.
