Gojira’s Mario Duplantier Says New Album is Almost Done Will Have a “More Metal Sound”

To say the French progressive metal band Gojira‘s been having a moment would be an understatement. They regularly play huge tours to great success, they’ve earned massive industry recognition, and they opened the fucking Olympics and broke the internet in the process. So of course, now’s the time to start talking about new music.
IN a recent interview with Le Parisien, Gojira drummer Mario Duplantier shared a pretty quick update on the band’s work toward a follow up to 2021’s Fortitude. And from what he said, I know a lot of us are going to be ridiculously excited.
“It’s almost finished. We’re going back to big guitar riffs and a more metal, but more modern, sound. There are two more songs to refine. We wanted to move quickly, but we didn’t succeed. We thought about it so much that we almost got lost. It’s harder to match our tastes than when we were 20, and that’s normal.”
The band’s more recent output has been good, but not as balls to the wall heavy as say their older releases. If we’re going to get closer to L’Enfant Sauvage and The way of all flesh style Gojira, count me the fuck in. I’m sure a lot of you would agree.
In the meantime, Gojira’s got a long ass list of tour dates set up for the rest of 2025 and a huge chunk of 2026. If you’d like to try to catch ’em live, check out the list of dates below and get your tickets today.
