The former club captain began by stating: “To all the Spurs fans. I mean, it’s such a hard decision that I will leave the Spurs family. “It was one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever made. I will be disappointed not seeing you on the pitch.” Son joined the club aged just 23 before spending a decade in the club’s colours. He thanked Spurs fans for welcoming him upon his arrival and supporting him throughout his time in England. The South Korean international added: “I will always be in your history books and Spurs will always be in my heart, Spurs will always be in my family. “As a kid you welcomed me and as I grew up, I’m leaving you, but there’s always good timing. “I always want to leave in a perfect way (so) that people can think about me, very proud moments and very happy moments. “This is the right time to say goodbye and I love you all. Thank you for the amazing support for the ten years. Ten years is a lot, huh? There was a lot of goals and a lot of good memories.” Son’s final season saw him captain Spurs to glory in the Europa League to end their 17-year trophy drought. The victory over Manchester United in the final back in May secured their first major silverware since 2008. So I just want to share this information before we start the press conference.” He had entered the final year of his deal this summer after the club triggered a one-year extension in January through to the end of June 2026.
