Ella Langley Shares High Praise For Cody Johnson At Houston Show: “One Of My Favorite People To Take Notes From”

Ella Langley is tipping her hat to a Texas legend while playing in the Lone Star State. Langley is on a high after the highly anticipated release of her new single “Choosin’ Texas,” and coincidentally, she’s running around Texas this weekend while on her Still Hungover tour.

She’s got a few stops on the books around the Lone Star state, but last night, October 17, Langley and her gang were in Houston, Texas, bringing her Alabama twangs to a packed crowd. Ella Langley kicked off her show, first off thanking the crowd and then tipping her hat to one of her favorite artists, who hails from Texas, Cody Johnson.

“One of my favorite artists out of Texas is Cody Johnson. He’s one of my favorite people to watch, to take notes from. I feel like he’s a rodeo announcer and a preacher all at the same time. You know?”

Amen to that. Johnson knows how to take his fans to church and has had many viral moments from his time preaching on stage, bringing fans together for a moment of unity. And the rodeo announcer comparison made me laugh because that too rings true, given his team roping hobby and bull riding background – the Texas rancher knows his stuff.

It’s neat to hear that Langley admires Johnson so much, but how could you not? He’s the definition of hard work pays off, and his career is something that many admire. Langley had the honor of supporting Johnson on dates during his Leather Tour, and like many younger artists do while on tour with someone they admire, she was taking notes and learning the ropes from him.

Langley then started her show, taking a line out of Johnson’s book, letting the audience know that if they give her their all, she will give them her all.

“But at the beginning of his shows, he says, ‘I will give you what you give me.’ So tonight, Texas, let it out, baby. Sing the words if you know ’em.”

The crowd gave Langley a lot that night because she left it all on that Houston stage last night.

A collaboration between Cod Johnson and Ella Langley would be something I’d love to see one day. That would hit hard.
