Dölly Crüe? I’m here for it…

Today, the queen Dolly Parton  teamed up with Mötley Crüe to reimagine their 1985 hit “Home Sweet Home” in an effort to raise money for Covenant House, which provides safe shelter, meals and more to help youth experiencing homelessness, and a portion of sales from this song will go directly to that charity.

Of course, Dolly has been leaning into her rock sensibilities much more over the last several years, which was evidenced on her 2023 Rockstar album, which featured mostly covers of rock classics along with features from legends like Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Mick Fleetwood, Steve Perry and so many more.

Actually, Mötley Crüe bassist Nikki Sixx and guitarist John 5 lent their talents on the song “Bygones” with Dolly, so she said she was thrilled to return the favor for the 40th anniversary of ‘Home Sweet Home’ in such a meaningful way:

“It was an honor and a joy working in the studio on Mötley Crüe’s 40th Anniversary re-release of ‘Home Sweet Home.’ I was so pleased that they would ask me to sing on such a classic.”

The band called it a “career high” to have an icon like Dolly on this special edition of “Home Sweet Home”:

“For an icon like Dolly Parton to sing on a song that has not only meant so much to us but to all the fans through the years, is a career high that means a lot to us.

We couldn’t be happier to celebrate the 40th anniversary of ‘Home Sweet Home’ in this special way, and we’re excited to share this version of the song with all the Dolly and Mötley fans around the world.

That we were able to unite with Dolly to raise awareness for homeless youth and the amazing work of Covenant House, which provides them safe housing and care, makes it even more special. We hope you’ll enjoy ‘Home Sweet Home’ featuring Dolly Parton as much as Dolly and we enjoyed creating it.”

This song is part of a collection of singles coming on September 12th, which is called From the Beginning, and it’s also the same day that the band will kick off their 10-show residency at Dolby Live at Park MGM in Las Vegas.

Of course, the power ballad “Home Sweet Home” was originally released in 1985 on their Theatre of Pain album, and again in 1991 on their Decade of Decadence compilation album.

It’s a bit of a wild pairing, but Dolly has always talked about how much her late husband Carl Dean loved rock, so I imagine she must’ve felt drawn to this in a way to honor him or feel close to him since he passed just a few months ago in March. I actually enjoyed a lot of the songs on Rockstar, and while they’re obviously not the originals (they were all much younger then, obviously), it was fun and who else other than Dolly could get that much legendary talent on one project? It was special for that reason alone…

I’m a bit of rock girlie myself and I love all of that music too, so I will never be mad about something like this that includes my queen, Mrs. Dolly.
