The best kicker in the league seemingly has a secret weapon: Chris Stapleton.

We’ve just barely entered into the 2025-2026 NFL season, and it’s already very clear who the best kicker in the league is. His name is Brandon Aubrey, he plays for “America’s Team,” the Dallas Cowboys, and his leg has seemingly limitless range.

Aubrey is currently perfect on the year, going 6-for-6 on field goals, and he’s yet to miss an extra point. The “A” in Aubrey apparently stands for automatic, and his cannon of a leg was on full display this past week when he nailed a 46-yarder to win the game for the Dallas Cowboys.

That sealed the overtime win for the ‘Boys.

However, it was Brandon Aubrey’s mega, never-a-doubt, 64-yard field goal that sent Dallas into overtime against the New York Giants in the first place. It sailed through the uprights with plenty of room to spare, and many think that it would have been good from as long as 70-yards.

Aubrey handled it like it was a chip shot:

It’s safe to say that the Dallas kicker has been – and will be – very important to the success of the Cowboys this year. All the team has to do to get points is move the ball to midfield, and Brandon Aubrey should be able to handle it. And it’s crazy to think that just a couple of years ago, he was sitting on his couch and had never kicked a football professionally in his life.

He went from a retired soccer player, to a software engineer, to his wife saying, “Honey, I bet you could do that” as they watched an NFL kicker miss a field goal. So he tried the whole football kicking thing out, and he was really good at it. Just another example of wives always being right, eh?

Now, after this season, he’ll likely become the highest paid kicker in NFL history, and Aubrey deserves every bit of it. His teammate and Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott even thinks that Brandon Aubrey should have his own walkout music for when he comes onto the field (like closers in baseball have).

A reporter followed up with the kicker on that suggestion, and Aubrey’s response was as solid and respectable as one of his 60-plus yard field goals:

“‘White Horse’ by Chris Stapleton.”

Phenomenal choice by Brandon Aubrey (Dak’s list wasn’t as strong).

And even if Chris Stapleton never plays over the loud speakers as Aubrey runs out onto the field to kick a long one through the posts, the country music star’s catalogue is still very important to him on game days. The Dallas Cowboys kicker explained that he loves to listen to Stapleton before games, and that his music gets him in the right mindset before the competition begins:

“I just love Stapleton. I pretty much all day on game day listen to Chris Stapleton because he keeps me calm. Don’t get too much energy burned before kickoff.”

Do you hear that? It’s every coach and general manager from the other 31 teams in the NFL scrambling to call their kicker and tell them to listen to Chris Stapleton before games. There could be something to it.

I know for a fact that there’d certainly be something to having kicker walk-out music. Just imagine having your TV tuned into a Dallas Cowboys game, the final seconds of the game ticking down, “America’s Team” being down by two points, and Brandon Aubrey trotting out to this banger:

“White Horse”
