Colorado Head Coach, Deion Sanders, Designed His Own… Abu Garcia Rod & Reel Combo?

If you’ve ever been out on the water ripping lips and thought to yourself, “Man, I wish I was using a rod and reel combo designed by football legend and current Colorado head coach Deion Sanders,” today is your lucky day.

My guess is not a lot of you have ever thought that, but the truth is, Deion Sanders has a knack for swooping in and making things interesting. Whether it was his playing days in NFL and MLB, his time at the HBCU Jackson State, or his current coaching gig with the Colorado Buffaloes, he’s always been comfortable in the limelight.

Believe it or not, Deion Sanders just wrapped us his third season as the Colorado head coach (time flies, eh?). Coach Prime and his Buffaloes team are currently went 3-9 on the year, with a record of 1-8 in the Big 12. They didn’t have as successful of a season as last year, when Colorado went 9-4 and boasted a 7-2 Big 12 record in their first year in the conference.

All that to say… Sanders is going to have some additional free time on his hands since the Colorado Buffaloes aren’t going to a bowl game.

What will he do with that time? Well, he’ll probably make sure he’s fully healthy, or healthy as he can be, considering he’s had some issues in the past couple of years. Then I’d imagine Sanders will start charting the course for next season, and attempting to get some big-time recruits to come to Boulder, Colorado. After that? I think he’ll find somewhere to go fishing.

In case you didn’t know, Deion Sanders is a huge fisherman. Actually, scratch that… he’s a huge fan of catching. That’s how he explained it in February of 2024, when he posted a picture of himself in a Major League Fishing hat with a monster bass he had reeled in:

“I hate going fishing, but I love to go catching!”

Deion also called himself “BASSIEPRIME” in the post, which is pretty funny.

But to be clear, fishing is no laughing matter for the college football coach. He takes the hobby very seriously, and in recent weeks, he’s been rolling out some more fishing content. One week ago, Coach Prime shared a clip of him out on the water catching some fish, and using an all-white Abu Garcia combo that was teased at the end of the video.

He’s right about the calming effects of water. I’m sure he’s enjoying the water right now as an escape from his not-so-successful season at Colorado Buffaloes (not a dig, just a guess).
