Gittens is Chelsea’s top choice, and a breakthrough could come before the end of June. European football expert Andy Brassell has likened the Blues’ pursuit of Gittens to their signing of Christian Pulisic in 2019. The American joined from Dortmund six years ago, with the move sharing several similarities to the current transfer saga. Brassell told talkSPORT’s Trans Europe Express: “If we look at Jamie Gittens there’s a huge amount of potential and current quality there. “He’s someone who is a very direct winger coming off the left hand side. A very mazy dribbler but there’s almost always a shot at the end of it. Chelsea are looking for a right-footed winger who can play on the leftGetty “He’s someone who scores goals and could score a lot more goals going forward. “But I think we have to look back as well at a season of two halves. He didn’t really get along well with Niko Kovac the Dortmund coach and he’s barely been in the team since Kovac arrived. “So it’s a little bit like the Christian Pulisic situation really when he went to Chelsea all those years ago.” Pulisic ultimately completed a £57.6million move to Stamford Bridge in January 2019, before returning to Dortmund on loan for the rest of the campaign. The USA international went on to score 26 goals and provide 21 assists for Chelsea before being sold to AC Milan in 2023. Watch all of the FIFA Club World Cup free on DAZN.
