Just what the doctor ordered.
Braxton Keith‘s hot streak continues with the release of his new single “Prescription.” Braxton Keith has been a music-making machine this calendar year, gifting fans with numerous singles like “Wind Blows,” “Baby You Do,” “Bye In Goodbye,” and his collaboration with fellow Texas honky tonker Randall King for “Cheatin’ On My Honky Tonk.”
The twenty-something-year-old Texas native calls San Antonio home, but you’ll have trouble finding him there. Since Keith has blown up on the red dirt and Texas country scene, he’s embracing a true road dog spirit and is constantly on the road touring, which makes it even more impressive that he’s had consistent releases all year.
Keith layers each of his songs with a hearty Texas twang, whether it’s a slow, heartbreaking ballad or an upbeat honky tonk tune, and he cleverly finds ways to deliver profound messages through his lyrics. “Prescription” is a certified heater that’s a honky tonk heartbreaker, as the narrator thinks the only cure for his broken heart is to fill a “prescription” by seeing an ex-lover.
“For those battling Tonkothelioma… my new single ‘Prescription’ provides quick relief—out now on all streaming platforms.”
Penned by Keith, John Pierce, and Randy Montana, “Prescription” is the perfect ballad for anyone with heartbreak blues. The narrator of the tune is filled with loneliness and a bad case of the blues after his woman left him at a bar all alone and single. While he’s tried to remedy his broken heart, he’s up all night tossing and turning, not being able to find a cure to this illness.
After some thought, the narrator comes to the realization that the only thing that will cure his ailment is time with this former lover, hoping to win her back into his life.
“Can’t get it over the counter
Or buy it off the street
The only time I feel better baby
Is when you’re on me
Tell me where you’re at girl
And I’ll two tone it to you quick
Cause I got a case of the missin’ you shakes
And tonight I need my fix
I’ve been under the weather
Can’t get myself together
That black and white label ain’t fixin’ my blues
I’ve been missin’ your kissin’
I know I’ve got an addiction
And I’m startin’ to think
The only prescription is you“
I mean, if a man who did me wrong came at me with lyrics like this, I might consider giving him a second chance…
The rockin’ melody of the song instantly draws you in, and when the listener is met with Keith’s Texas drawl, you’re hooked. The thick guitar chugs are met with the pluck of a fiddle and the moan of the steel guitar, creating a full-bodied, complex melody that you could pick apart for hours.
This is a true Texas twanger and solid country gold. Braxton Keith is on his way to being the next huge name in country music.
Turn it up.
