Bill Belichick & Jordon Hudson Reportedly File Trademark For “Gold Digger,” Among Other Cringy Phrases Like “Chapel Bill”
Trademarking the term “Gold Digger,” eh? Can you even do that? I only ask that question because there are some terms and words that no one can own the trademark too (words that are too general, too profane, or not distinctive enough, etc.). But I guess if any couple was going to own the rights of the phrase “Gold Digger,” it would make sense that it’d be a 73-year-old Bill Belichick and his 24-year-old girlfriend Jordon Hudson.
As you likely already know, this whole saga with former New England Patriots coach (and current UNC head coach) Bill Belichick and his much younger girlfriend Jordon Hudson continues to get stranger and stranger. At first, the story was just quirky and a tad bit weird. Now? It’s unfortunately graduated to questionable, head-scratching… and a bit suspicious.
We were first told that Belichick and Hudson had serendipitously met on a flight, hitting it off. After Bill signed her college textbook, their connection then led to a dating relationship, followed by Hudson being entrenched in nearly every aspect of Bill’s life. As time continues to pass, and additional information is presented, it’s seeming more and more that their “meet cute” might not have gone exactly how it’s been portrayed.
And things really started to take a turn for a worse when Jordon Hudson sat in on a CBS Sunday Morning interview earlier this year. That disaster really opened the flood gates on their relationship, and when Hudson was later seen out on the field at UNC, where Bill Belichick is set to make his coaching return, it only added fuel to the fire.
Allow me to introduce even more fuel.
Earlier this year, TCE Rights Management LLC – a company owned by Bill Belichick and managed by, you guessed it, Jordon Hudson – filed 17 separate trademark applications within one week. Some of those trademark requests? “Chapel Bill” (a play on Chapel Hill, where Bill now coaches), “Belestrator,” “No Days Off,” “The Belichick Way,” and “Trail of Salty Tears,” among many others.
And they more recently filed an official trademark application for the term “Gold Digger.” This is not a joke or a satirical story… it’s very much real, and was reported on earlier today by Darren Rovell:
For those that might be uninitiated on what that term means, it’s typically used to refer to someone that presumed to be in a relationship (usually with an older partner) for the money. As in… they want to wait things out, so they can then inherit the riches… or the “gold,” if we’re being on the nose about things.
Obviously, that term has been thrown at Jordon Hudson a lot since it became public knowledge that she was with Bill Belichick romantically. There’s almost a 50-year age gap between the two of them… but I’m sure it was just your regular ol’ love at first sight situation.
But hey, it looks like Belichick, Hudson and TCE Rights Management LLC are looking to make the most of the situation and get “Gold Digger” trademarked. They have apparently filed with the intention to use the term on key chains and jewelry. So be prepared for Jordon Hudson to release her very own “Gold Digger” jewelry line. I can already see the product line’s tagline now:
“Gold Digger: Shine Shamelessly.”
I mean, we’ve been saying “no days off” for 10 years around here… and I imagine that just about every football team in America has that as a motto. The post Bill Belichick & Jordon Hudson Reportedly File Trademark For “Gold Digger,” Among Other Cringy Phrases Like “Chapel Bill” first appeared on Whiskey Riff.
