Austin Dillon managed to take home his second straight NASCAR Cup Series win at Richmond Raceway tonight, a year after his controversial victory in the 2024 race.
In case you need a refresher, Dillon had the dominant car all night long last year. But on a late race restart, he was shuffled back to third place and knew he had to make a move if he wanted to keep his shot at a win – and a spot in the playoffs – alive. Dillon ended up wrecking both Joey Logano and Denny Hamlin in the final lap en route to the checkered flag.
But a few days later, NASCAR dropped the hammer on Dillon and his Richard Childress Racing team, removing him from the playoffs and docking the team 25 points. RCR appealed the penalty but were ultimately unsuccessful, and Dillon ended up missing the playoffs despite keeping his win at Richmond.
Tonight though, there was no controversy. Dillon and Ryan Blaney battled for the lead ahead of the final pit stop, and Dillon came to pit road four laps before Blaney, giving the #12 car a tire advantage on the final run. But it didn’t really matter. Blaney couldn’t keep up, and was even passed by Alex Bowman for second place, while Dillon drove to a comfortable victory to lock himself into the playoffs.
Seems like a pretty big story, right? The iconic #3 car back in Victory Lane and the playoffs.
But after the race, it was something else that had everybody talking: Austin Dillon’s teeth.
While speaking with USA after the race, Dillon showed off his bright smile that had everybody talking about his veneers.
