Aphex Twin is digging into the archives to re-release an album that probably came out long before you and your rave besties even existed.
Originally released in 1993 just months after his most iconic offering, Selected Ambient Works 85–92, Surfing on Sine Waves was the only album released by the electronic music legend under his Polygon Window moniker. Featuring nine tracks, the original record was part of Warp Records’ Artificial Intelligence series, which played an instrumental role in the creation of the term IDM (intelligent dance music), per our friends at MusicTech.
Now, 32 years later, Warp is re-releasing the album in digital and physical formats with new content. Surfing On Sine Waves (Expanded Edition) will feature 14 tracks, including “Portreath Harbour” and “Redruth School,” which were released as bonus tracks in a 2000 reissue. The revamped edition will also feature “Iketa,” “Quoth (Wooden Thump Mix)” and “Bike Pump Meets Bucket,” which are pulled from his Polygon Window EP Quoth.
The expanded Surfing on Sine Waves is due out on September 26th, 2025. You can pre-order the physical re-release on vinyl, CD and cassette tape, and stream the album for free now on Aphex Twin’s official website.
