It’s truly impressive how many hit TV shows and movies Sheridan has his name attached to. At this point, Hollywood executives are clamoring for Taylor Sheridan to work with them, solely because anything he touches – or brings to life himself – seemingly turns to gold.
Do I really need to lay out his body of work to make the point? I mean the Yellowstone brand alone is valued at over $3 billion (with a “b”), and there are plenty more spinoffs coming. Just in case you need to see things listed out, here are some of Taylor Sheridan’s biggest and most lucrative TV shows and movies to date:
–Yellowstone
-Tulsa King
-1883 (Yellowstone Spinoff)
-Mayor of Kingstown
-1923 (Yellowstone Spinoff)
-Hell Or High Water
–Landman
-Sicario & Sicario: Day of the Saldado
And that’s somehow just scratching the surface. Sheridan has long been a talented director and show runner, but it’s only in recent years that the amount of total projects with his name attached have risen exponentially. And since I just mentioned Sicario and it’s sequel at the end of that list, now would probably be a good time to mention that a “Sicario 3” could be in the works.
The first Sicario (means “hitman” in Spanish) hit theaters in 2015, and featured a star-studded cast of Josh Brolin, Emily Blunt, and Benicio del Toro, among others. It was a smash hit… but it’s follow up, Sicario: Day of the Saldado, didn’t fare as well. Many blame that on the cast shifting around a bit, and Emily Blunt not returning.
But at the end of the day, both scripts were written by the one and only Taylor Sheridan. And early reports are suggesting that Sheridan has partially written the script for a third Sicario, which would officially make the action thriller based around the drug war a trilogy.
Josh Brolin, who has starred in both Sicario films thus far, was recently on the Happy Sad Confused podcast and was asked if he had heard anything about a third installment. The 57-year-old actor provided this somewhat exciting and promising update:
“I mentioned at some point, I don’t know, maybe just to be contrary. I was like, ‘Yeah, that’s never going to happen.’ And then the producers showed up and Molly (Smith) and, you know, ‘That’s not true!’ Which is fine. And then I just heard recently that it’s very, very real. So, cool.”
Brolin has worked with Denis Villeneuve – who directed the first Sicario – on other projects like Dune and Dune 2 since the last time he played Matt Graver. Villeneuve didn’t direct the sequel, mainly because he’s been so busy with other projects. When Brolin was asked if the director would return for the third, he wasn’t sure of anything on that front:
“Don’t know that. I honestly don’t know that.”
But hey… the silver lining is that Taylor Sheridan has somehow found the time to work on a script expanding on the Sicario universe. And if Josh Brolin is on board, that likely means that the cast from the first two films would also be highly interested in returning.
