‘A lot of issues’ – Cristiano Ronaldo stormed off after Manchester United were frustrated by Burnley

Manchester United take on Burnley in the Premier League, and it’s a big game for Ruben Amorim. After defeat to Grimsby Town in midweek, the Red Devils are looking for their first win of the season, and they’ll be aiming to not get as frustrated as Cristiano Ronaldo did against the Clarets. Ronaldo was left fuming after a draw against BurnleyGetty The two sides met in February 2022 and the game ended in a 1-1 draw. The Red Devils went into the game looking for a third Premier League win in a row, and Ronaldo was left on the bench. Man United opened the scoring through Paul Pogba before Jay Rodriguez equalised, leaving the visitors frustrated. At the end of the game, Ronaldo, who came on as a substitute, stormed straight down the tunnel. Of course, leaving Ronaldo on the bench was never going to go down too well, but interim manager Ralf Rangnick had his reasons. He said: “We’ve played Burnley a couple of weeks ago and seen quite a few games here at Turf Moor, we knew in the early stages it will require a lot of running, chasing balls, a lot of fighting for second balls, so I decided to start with Edi [Edinson Cavani] because this kind of profile suits him.” Ronaldo didn’t acknowledge the away fans and headed straight for the dressing room at full time, which drew criticism from Ally McCoist. The talkSPORT pundit said at the time: “I do feel he should be acknowledging the fans, that should always be done. “The travelling fans in particular, certainly in my experience, can be the more vocal of your team’s support and they travel long distances and spend an awful lot of money. “I can understand that sometimes the overall disappointment of defeat [or a draw, in this instance] getting to you and just wanting to get off the park. “However, I think you should always go over to your travelling support and give them a thank you.” Ronaldo cut a frustrated figure during much of his second spell at Old TraffordGetty And in response, the superstar posted an image of him talking to a young child at Turf Moor. He added a caption that read: “Children are and will always be the best thing the world has to offer, and we must protect them at all costs. “Supporters are and will always be the best in football, and we must respect everything they face and endure for their clubs.” However, this wasn’t the first time Ronaldo stormed down the tunnel that season, and we all know that once Erik ten Hag arrived at Old Trafford, his second spell as a Man United player came to an abrupt end. What to expect this time? Well, Man United are already in somewhat of a crisis. The club have suffered one of their worst results in their recent history this week. And now the pressure is on Amorim to get a win. talkSPORT understands that the manager is under no immediate danger, but after seven wins in the Premier League since his appointment, things need to start turning around quickly. He has been well backed in the transfer window as well to the tune of £200million on a new forward line alone. None of those players have scored for their new club either. The penalty shootout defeat was a new low for Man UnitedGetty Meanwhile, for Burnley, this is a great opportunity. The Clarets are two points above Man United after a win and a defeat from their first two. Scott Parker‘s men started with a 3-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur before beating Sunderland 2-0 at Turf Moor. They will head to Old Trafford knowing that all of the pressure is on the hosts, and Parker can’t wait. Speaking in his pre-match press conference, he said: “Look, fundamentally, first and foremost, we’re playing against an exceptional, historic football club. “You only have to see their front line and what they’ve done over the summer. They’ve got some exceptional players – and players that can change games at any moment, really. “The ups and downs and the bumps of football sometimes bring different results, of course. But we’re under no illusions of the task we have ahead of us at the weekend. “I don’t really look into whether it’s a good or a bad time to go there. There’s always flip sides to that. You can look at one side of it and say, it’s a bit of a wounded animal with world-class players that can obviously have a reaction. “On the other side, of course, there may be a bit of edginess, but fundamentally, we’ll try and give our best version and take on the task of going to play Manchester United at Old Trafford.” Whatever happens on Saturday, Ronaldo won’t be there to storm down the tunnel.
