The Pop-Tarts Bowl is a relatively new bowl game, as it’s in its third year, but it’s already become one of the best events in college football. The bowl game held at Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Florida, set the world on fire during its inaugural game in 2023, not because of the game itself (does anyone even remember who was playing?) but because of the spectacle centered around the giant breakfast pastry.
In case you’ve forgotten, at the end of the game, the Pop-Tart mascot entered a giant toaster and came out the bottom, only to be eaten by the winning team.
The moment from the 2023 game was cinematic in a way and made the internet fall in love with the mascot’s plotline. But it left fans wondering how they’d keep the Pop-Tarts mascot alive, given that the team ate him. Last year, the Pop-Tarts Bowl flawlessly found a way to continue having a Pop-Tart mascot, featuring not one but THREE Pop-Tarts mascots, with the winning team choosing one edible toaster pastry mascot to eat after the game.
And just when you thought it couldn’t get better, before kick off during last year’s game, in a scene that the European mind couldn’t comprehend, the pregame featured a tribute to the fallen Pop-Tart, before resurrecting the giant pastry, minus, of course, the parts that were eaten last year.
It looked like a Pop-Tart zombie whose skin had been ripped off…and it was perfection.
So what does the Pop-Tarts Bowl have in store for the beloved mascots in 2025? According to Leslie Serro, vice president of marketing for Pop-Tarts, the fate of the Pop-Tart will be in the hands of fans.
“Pop-Tarts fans are passionate about their favorite flavors, so this year, we’re giving them the power to decide which Edible Mascot team — Team Sprinkles or Team Swirls — will be sacrificed and eaten by the winning team.
Whether fans are voting for their favorite team or recreating the epic sacrifice with the Pop-Tarts Limited-Edition Team Sprinkles vs. Team Swirls Tailgate Pack, they’ll find that this year’s game is all about delivering more unforgettable moments than ever.”
Voting opens at kickoff, and viewers both at home and inside Camping World Stadium will be able to choose either Team Sprinkles or Team Swirls to be eaten when the game’s over by texting either “SPRINKLES” or “SWIRLS” to 21523.
So be sure to tune into the “People’s National Championship” featuring Georgia Tech vs. BYU on Dec. 27 in Orlando, Florida, at 3:30 p.m. EST on ABC.
It appears that Georgia Tech is already priming their taste buds for the frosted delight should they win the game.
