It is already Amorim’s 18th defeat in 43 matches as United boss since his appointment in November last year. However, he was able to take positives from the match despite the losing start to the campaign. Amorim handed debuts to his three attacking signings during the defeat with Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha starting, while Benjamin Sesko made a 25-minute cameo off the bench. Following the match, Amorim revealed his takeaways from the performance. What did Amorim say? Speaking to Sky Sports, he explained: “We were more aggressive than last year. “We sprinted more, we were more brave, we went one against one all (of) the game. We pressed high and then with the ball we had quality. “Even when the stadium makes some sounds, we continued to play the way we play. We lost fewer balls in the build-up compared to last year, we struggled a lot. “Then the small things that we talk about in the beginning of this season. Players like Cunha, like Bryan, one moment can elevate the stadium. GettyAmorim believed the most important takeaway was that United were ‘not boring’[/caption] View Tweet: https://t.co/IjsNil01Sr “So I think the most important thing, we were not boring.” Amorim’s comments appeared to divide fans on social media, though. Reacting to his ‘not boring’ claim, one supporter wrote: “What about winning?” Another added: “That’s not the most important thing mate. Most important thing is winning.” Meanwhile, others were in support of Amorim, with one fan commenting: “This team has legs, the points will come.” A fourth supporter simply said: “He is right.” The opening weekend defeat follows a disappointing campaign for United last term. Their 15th place finish was their lowest for 35 years, whilst their 42 points was their worst since 1973/74, a season which saw them get relegated from the top flight. As a result, the Red Devils are not in Europe this season, having lost the Europa League final to Tottenham in May. Amorim will look to bounce back with a win away to Fulham next Sunday before a Carabao Cup trip to Grimsby on August 27.
