Reba Meyers Releases New Single “Clouded World”

Up until now, the tunes we’ve heard from Code Orange guitarist/vocalist Reba Meyers’ solo effort have largely fallen in the more Lilith Fair-esque sound. Think a more modern Fiona Apple in some ways. This new track released earlier today titled “Clouded World”, however, is more of a pissed off rocker than anything.

Set as her solo album’s title track, “Clouded World” is all sound and fury about the fucked up world we’re all living in. Speaking of the track, Meyers said it’s all about how we’ve all lost our way as human beings.

“Too many aspects of the modern human condition feel entirely over-labored and orchestrated. We have drifted far from our primal instincts and have gotten so distracted by the myriad tools at our fingertips that we forget that our human imperfections are the one thing that makes us special and unpredictable.”

The video below features cameos from both Taipei Houston (and Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich’s son) Myles Ulrich, as well as solo artist Lola Colette. The song itself was recorded just a few months before the death of the late Steve Albini at Electrical Audio. Meyers said Albini’s love of highlighting the imperfections found in music will stick with her.

“Steve championed the medium of physical recordings, and that process inherently encourages the commitment to imperfection. I hope to embrace the randomness and grit of life, which includes our imperfections, as both their beauty and ugliness are often able to both inspire and teach us about our inner workings.”

Though we don’t know much about her forthcoming solo album other than the fact that it’s called Clouded World and is set for release sometime early next year, we do know she’s heading out on her debut solo tour. That run of dates will kick off on August 12 in Philly and will continue until the last gig on August 25 in San Jose, California. Ninth Cage and Kimi Malka Hanauer will be the supporting acts.
