‘Landman’ Star Jacob Lofland Says The Events Of The First Two Seasons Only Span “Two Or Three Months”

Surprisingly, not a whole lot of time has passed in the Landman storyline.

Season 1 of the hit show – boasting a cast of Billy Bob Thornton, Demi Moore, Ali Larter, Jacob Lofland, and Michelle Randolph, among others – took the world by storm. Viewers were excited to see the curtain pulled back on the oil industry like never before, and that interest carried over into Season 2.

The Season 2 premiere of the Taylor Sheridan show holds the title of the biggest season or series premiere ever for Paramount+. More than 9 million people viewed the first episode of the second season in the first few days it was available on the streamer. Needless to say, there was a lot of hype going into the show’s sophomore run… and even though the second season has been lackluster in the eyes of some viewers, people are still tuning in to see how the story unfolds.

And though the release of the series has been spread out over a couple of years (2024 to 2026, to be exact), fans might be interested in knowing that the events of the show that Landman viewers are getting to see have only spanned across a couple of months. That’s according to actor Jacob Lofland, who plays Cooper Norris (the son of Billy Bob Thornton’s Tommy Norris) in the hit show.

When he spoke with The Hollywood Reporter about that insane finish to the penultimate episode of Season 2, Lofland also touched on how much time the series has actually covered. This might be surprising, but it’s been confirmed that Season 1 of Landman only stretched across 10 days. From what Lofland says about Seasons 2’s storyline, it’s told over a similar period of time:

“We’ve talked about it. We never really added it up through the season (as we filmed). But after (we wrapped) and have talked about it, it’s probably 10 to 15 days. There’s probably a six-week gap in between seasons, so we’ve known the characters for two or three months.”

Pretty wild, right?

Sometimes you just assume that more time has passed, or there’s time in between episodes that viewers don’t see. But then again, where an episode leaves off is generally where the next installment picks right up. For the most part, TV shows or movies are just a glimpse into a brief moment in time.

That’s especially true for shows like 24 or HBO’s smash-hit The Pitt. They have both famously put out seasons that, in total, only span 24 hours (or a full shift) in the show’s time. And now that I think about it… I’d love to see Taylor Sheridan tackle that kind of format for a television series.

For now though, all of the attention will be turned to the Season 2 finale of Landman, which is set to air on Sunday, January 18 on Paramount+. The episode, titled “Tragedy and Flies,” has a lot to sort out in a short amount of time. But after how slow this season has moved, it wouldn’t be the worst thing for the 10th and final episode of the season to go pedal to the metal.

And with Taylor Sheridan holding the reigns… I’m sure it will.
