Tim McGraw Says The First Time He Saw A Picture Of Faith Hill He “Fell In Love Instantly”

Faith Hill and Tim McGraw are one of country music’s most famed power couples. While there are plenty of other country music stars who have a spouse outside of the limelight and still loved by country music fans, there is something magical about two musicians joining forces who share a love off the stage. We’ve seen it repeatedly with couples like George Jones, Tammy Wynette, Johnny Cash, and June, or Chris Stapleton and Morgane. The feeling you get as a fan seeing two people so deeply in love on stage radiates throughout the venue.

I know I get chills every time I think about Tim and Faith sitting face to face at the 2008 CMT Music Awards singing “I Need You.”

That performance takes intimacy to a whole new level:

Tim and Faith’s love story has endured, and they continue to share bits and pieces from their personal lives that keep fans plugged into it. But part of the reason they might have lasted this long is that Tim claims he fell in love with Faith before ever meeting her.

On a recent sit-down with Katie Neal for an episode of Katie & Company, the “Real Good Man” singer shared that he only saw a picture of Faith and knew she was the one.

“I remember the very first time I saw a picture of Faith, I fell in love instantly. I think she was on ‘Billboard Magazine’ or something.

I was walking through my management office, and I had one or two singles out off my first album that hadn’t really done much. And I was in the process of recording my second album, and I walked by and saw the photo of her. I’m like, ‘Oh my god, I need to find that girl.'”

Tim made these statements after Neal played him a clip of Faith accepting the ACM in 1993 for Top Female Artist. This ACM Awards was before he and Faith had met, and Tim recalled it being his first ACM Awards, so he was too busy soaking it all in to remember her speech.

Tim and Faith would officially meet the following year, in 1994, at the Country Radio Seminar showcase, but that’s not where their love story began, as they were both in relationships at that time. But fate would have its way, bringing the two together two years later. Things really got hot and heavy when they toured together on Tim McGraw’s Spontaneous Combustion tour.

“We were young and silly and goo-goo-eyed in love.”

Tim once told People Magazine about the early days of their relationship. After trying to deny the chemistry, Tim and Faith decided they were meant for each other and ended their relationships before officially dating. When the two got together, Faith received some backlash as she was previously engaged, but she defended her actions, knowing that Tim was her match.

“If someone is going to judge my character because I was engaged to somebody and then I left him for somebody else — ‘Oh, OK, now she’s a slut and a bad person’ — I can’t control that. But I wasn’t about to let Tim slip through my hands.”

These two have stood the test of time and have a relationship most couples dream of. They have three beautiful children, two of whom pursue music. McGraw later shared on the Katie & Company episode that he and Faith have their hands full with two new puppies they recently welcomed to the family.

“We got two new puppies at home, so we are pretty busy. We got Aussie Mountaindoodles.” 

Sounds like those dogs hit the lottery for parents.
