The Hot Country Knights are back and better than ever.
If you’re a fan of ’90s country, then you need to familiarize yourself with the Hot Country Knights. The supergroup has been making music for decades, but most country fans were unfamiliar with their work until 2015.
The HCK are very selective with their musical releases and tour dates, so catching them live is a treat for anyone. And they love to make surprise appearances with the “Drunk On A Plane” singer, Dierks Bentley’s tour. This is because Bentley helps produce the group’s music.
In 2023, Bentley hit the studio with the HCK and fellow ’90s star Darla McFarland to release two heaters, “Herassment” and “Midnight Rodeo.”
Darla McFarland and frontman Doug Douglason used to be old flames. While I hoped that we’d get some new singles from the duo after the release of “Herassment,” it appears some bad blood from their past relationship might have resurfaced because at a recent HCK appearance, they brought out a new collaborator.
At Ohio’s The Country Fest, the Knights brought out a brand new mustache-rocking, cigarette-smoking cutie, which made the girls swoon. It’s giving the same energy as George Strait, making “a cowgirl’s jeans twitch from 100 yards.” This new band member might remind you of the ’90s country revivalist Zach Top, but given that the HCK don’t work with modern-day artists, it’s hard to believe they would team up with the “I Never Lie” hitmaker.
But this is not Zach Top, this is recently released prisoner Billy Bottoms… and before you get any ideas, Alan Jackson is not his dad.
Billy Bottoms sold the Ohio crowd that he learned to sing country music while he was in the slammer, and boy, did he learn a thing or two. He and the other HCK fired up the ’90s John Michael Montgomery classic “Sold (The Grundy County Auction Incident).”
Billy Bottoms is a machine that steps up to the microphone, flawlessly delivering lyrics while ripping a cigarette. Talk about talent. Fans were loving the addition of Billy Bottoms to the group, with some comments saying:
“He is the reincarnation of country music we ALL NEEDED.”
Talk about some high praise. I hope we see more Billy Bottoms with the Hot Country Knights because this collaboration is a must-watch. They are electric on stage together.
