Not a great look for the trooper.
This SEC matchup between Texas A&M and South Carolina is already turning into a contender for game of the year, and as I’m writing this there are still 11 minutes left in the game.
The Gamecocks came out and absolutely stunned #3 ranked A&M in the first half of the game, going into the locker room at halftime with a 30-3 lead. But the Aggies rebounded in the second half, and just scored a touchdown to take the lead early in the fourth quarter.
But it’s not one of the explosive plays on the field that has everybody talking.
Late in the second quarter, a group of South Carolina players were running out of the tunnel after having just scored when a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper walked right through them, even appearing to give one a shove while bumping wide receiver Nyck Harbor, who had just scored the touchdown.
After causing the contact with the players, the trooper then turned around and appeared to yell at Harbor, whose teammate smartly stepped in and kept him moving back towards the field.
The moment was caught on the ESPN broadcast and immediately began to go viral as people mocked the officer for the completely over the top and unnecessary reaction to a situation that he caused himself:

Peak Texas state trooper power trip right there. Everything is bigger in Texas. Including fragile egos and hurt feelings.

Oh, and to make matters worse, right before Harbor scored the touchdown, a Texas A&M “yell leader,” who if you aren’t aware are basically dorky cheerleaders, appeared to slap the ball out of the wide receiver’s hand after he scored.
Texas A&M hasn’t been good for long enough for their fans to act like this when they’re losing…
Well the Texas DPS quickly responded to the backlash, announcing that the trooper had been sent home from the game and that the department would be investigating the confrontation.
“The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is aware of the incident that occurred today during the Texas A&M football game. The DPS Trooper involved was sent home from the game. Our Office of Inspector General (OIG) is also aware of the incident and will be further looking into the matter. No additional information will be released at this time.”
The Texas A&M Police Department, which is always active on Twitter during gameday and had been getting blamed for the altercation, also clarified that it wasn’t one of their officers involved:
“We are aware of the incident in the NE tunnel involving a DPS trooper. He has been relieved of his game day assignment.”
It goes without saying, but that guy has no business being on the sideline if he’s going to act like that. The players did nothing wrong, and he got in their way and then snapped when he ran into them. Not a great representation of the department, and not somebody who should be working football games, at the least. The post Texas State Trooper Sent Home From Texas A&M Game After Altercation With South Carolina Player first appeared on Whiskey Riff.
