It’s all for the kids, and it should be, since they’re the future or whatever. That’s why Alice Cooper hosts a little something called “Christmas Pudding,” a yearly event where he raises money for his Alice Cooper’s Solid Rock Teen Centers, which provide music, art, dance, and vocational programs for kids aged 12–20.
Cooper was joined by the surviving members of his original lineup for the Alice Cooper band on stage for this year’s pudding, which took place last night (Saturday, November 15) at the Celebrity Theatre in Phoenix, Arizona. Guitarist Michael Bruce, bassist Dennis Dunaway, and drummer Neal Smith, along with guitarist Gyasi Heus (who filled in for the late Cooper axeman Glen Buxton) helped him play tracks from his latest album The Revenge of Alice Cooper, the first full record featuring the original Alice Cooper band since 1973’s Muscle of Love.
When it comes to how the boyz came about reuniting in the first place, Cooper told 95.5 KLOS:
“When we parted, we didn’t divorce; we just separated. There was no bad blood. There was no lawsuits or anything like that. And we stayed in touch with each other. And finally, at one point — they had worked on some of my albums — I said, ‘Why don’t we just do an album?’ Ah we got [longtime producer] Bob Ezrin involved. And I was absolutely amazed. Everything went so smoothly. We wrote all these songs, and it sounded exactly like 1975.
“Losing Glen was really tough for us ’cause he was our Keith Richards. We got Robby Krieger to play on ‘Black Mamba’, which was perfect for that song. And we found a guy named Gyasi [Hues] in Nashville that just fit in perfectly.”
I wonder what stops they’ll pull out for next year’s pudding. Guess we’ll see!
