Arsenal are primed to complete a £70million double swoop this week, with reputable broadcaster Henry Winter reporting that the club will finalise deals to make their 4th and 5th major signings of the summer – and it’s only mid July!
Noni Madueke, the 23-year-old England international currently at Chelsea, is set to move across London in a deal worth up to £52million. He’s already flown back to London to complete a medical. The Gunners have identified his pace, directness and versatility across the front line as ideal traits for Mikel Arteta’s evolving attack.
The other signing Arsenal are set to make according to Henry Winter is Cristhian Mosquera, Valencia’s 21‑year‑old Spanish centre-back. Reports suggest a fee of around €20 million (approximately £17 million), potentially rising to £18 million depending on add‑ons is likely to see the deal struck.
The moves follow the recent arrivals of Martin Zubimendi and Christian Nørgaard in midfield, with Kepa Arrizabalaga having already joined to provide experienced competition in goal. It marks a significant start to the summer for sporting director Andrea Berta, who is working swiftly to shape a title-challenging squad before pre-season intensifies.
But the spending will not stop there. Talks with Sporting CP over star striker Viktor Gyökeres are progressing positively. A fee is virtually agreed, with negotiations now focused on the structure of add-ons and the agent’s sizeable fee — something Arsenal are pushing back on firmly. The 27-year-old Swede is understood to be extremely keen on the move and may need to intervene with his representatives to smooth the final stages of the deal.
There’s also significant movement on potential outgoings, with Arsenal looking to generate further funds. Jakub Kiwior, Reiss Nelson, Leandro Trossard, Fabio Vieira, and Oleksandr Zinchenko are all being considered for sale, with the club hopeful of raising substantial income while streamlining the squad.
The double capture of Madueke and Mosquera, coupled with the groundwork laid on Gyökeres, signals Arsenal’s serious intent early in this transfer window. With strategic signings and smart sales, the Gunners are building a squad ready to compete on all fronts next season.
Arsenal fans will now hope to see some midfield magic arrive, in the shape of Eberechi Eze and a new Ethan Nwaneri contract, perhaps.
