Michigan Fires Head Coach Sherrone Moore For Having An Inappropriate Relationship With A Staffer & The Lane Kiffin Speculation Has Already Started

Could Lane Kiffin be getting another raise already?

Of course the biggest news of the coaching season has been Ole Miss head coach leaving his team ahead of the College Football Playoffs to take the job at LSU that opened up after the Tigers fired Brian Kelly.

I’m not going to go into all of the drama surrounding Kiffin’s departure from Oxford because you probably already know how it all went down, but it’s safe to say that Ole Miss fans were furious while LSU fans were thrilled with their new coach.

But could Kiffin’s time in Baton Rouge be short-lived?

Another bombshell hit the college football world this afternoon when the University of Michigan announced that they were firing head coach Sherrone Moore, who took over the program in 2024 after Jim Harbaugh departed for the NFL (amidst a cheating scandal).

Moore went 9-3 this season after a disappointing 8-5 season in 2024 (but they beat Ohio State so it didn’t really matter), so it’s not like he was exactly on the hot seat. But as it turns out Michigan’s decision had nothing to do with his performance on the field and was because of what he was doing in the bedroom…well, actually it was who he was doing in the bedroom.

According to the university, Moore is being fired for cause after allegedly having an inappropriate relationship with a female staffer for the Wolverines football team:

“U-M head football coach Sherrone Moore has been terminated, with cause, effective immediately. Following a University investigation, credible evidence was found that Coach Moore engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member.”

Now, there have been rumors flying around for weeks that this was coming, and there’s all kinds of speculation and “inside sources” providing more details about what allegedly happened. But all we know right know is that Moore is out, and Michigan will be searching for a new coach, at a time when most of the head coaching vacancies have been filled and there aren’t a ton of coaches on the market anymore.

Which is where the Lane Kiffin speculation comes in…

According to several reports, Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer is expected to be Michigan’s top target to replace Moore. And make no mistake: The university can outbid pretty much anybody if they want a coach bad enough. One of their largest donors is Oracle founder Larry Ellison, who’s one of the richest men in the world. Somebody’s about to get a massive raise (and that probably means that a lot of Jimmy Sexton’s clients are about to get big extensions and pay increases).

Kiffin is, of course, a former offensive coordinator at Alabama under legendary coach Nick Saban, and it’s long been reported that Kiffin has his own eye on the head coaching job in Tuscaloosa.

If DeBoer does in fact end up taking the Michigan job, could Kiffin pass up his opportunity to land his dream job? Could his stay in Baton Rouge be shorter than Britney Spears’ first marriage? That’s the speculation on social media right now:

Now, that seems like a longshot. I doubt Alabama is going to pay whatever Lane Kiffin’s buyout at LSU is. But hey, stranger things have happened.

Unfortunately, if DeBoer does end up taking the job at Michigan and Kiffin stays in Baton Rouge, you gotta wonder whether he’s going to regret blowing his load too early by bolting for LSU instead of waiting for ‘Bama to open up.
