Erling Haaland reported to police over alleged incident involving Man City mascot
Man City striker Erling Haaland was reported to the police after an incident involving a club mascot. A woman working as ‘Moonbeam’ claims she was struck twice on the back of the head by the Norwegian as they posed for a photo. Haaland was at the centre of a probe after an incident involving a club mascotGetty The incident in question occurred before a match against Southampton in October 2024. Haaland was cleared of any wrongdoing by both Man City and Greater Manchester Police after the woman lodged a complaint. In a report released by The Sun on Friday night, the Premier League champions said: “Manchester City refute the complaint that was made in this regard. “The Club fully investigated and found that none of the evidence, including video footage, backed up the claim that an injury was sustained in the manner alleged. “We’re also aware a complaint was made to Greater Manchester Police and no further action was taken by them either.” A club probe into the investigation concluded that footage showed Haaland ‘grazing’ the woman’s head, adding that the striker always acknowledges the mascot with a gentle touch. The woman alleged that Haaland’s playful blows caused her to suffer vomiting, along with neck and head pain. She went to hospital on the advice of Man City’s first-team doctor the day after the incident. Scans conducted by Salford Royal’s A&E department showed no damage, although doctors’ notes confirmed her symptoms. The woman started working at Man City as a temp in June 2024 and her contract was not renewed in December. The woman in question occasionally worked as ‘Moonbeam’ on matchdays alongside a role in the ticket officeGetty She said: “I was pretty upset and I was crying and my head was thudding and I think I was in shock. “I later realised he’d come behind me and hit me on the head and then leaned on my head.” The woman also complained about Man City’s handling of the situation, saying: “I’m sure Erling would have apologised to me if they had given him the chance. “But they just wanted to sweep it under the carpet.” Haaland has established himself as one of the world’s greatest strikers since joining Man City in 2022. The 25-year-old has scored 118 goals in 136 games, winning two Premier League titles, the Champions League and the FA Cup. He signed a lucrative nine-and-a-half-year contract in January, committing his future to the club until the summer of 2034.
