It’s happening!

Over the last few weeks, Briley King has broken the internet with her cover of “The Night The Lights Went Out In Georgia.” The viral moment originated from a backstage jam session that occurred before King took the stage with her husband at the Marcus King Band Family Reunion to cover the tune.

If you’re a fan of the Kings, then you are familiar with Briley’s powerhouse vocals and are privy to the fact that she supported Marcus on some backup vocals from his last studio record, Mood Swings, which was created with the legendary producer Rick Rubin. Talk about a musical powerhouse duo, right?

After hundreds of comments and videos began popping up begging Briley to record a version of it, which she admitted she was scared to do, the overwhelming amount of positive feedback might have been the push she needed to get into the recording booth to do the damn thing.

Fans began freaking out when Briley shared a video of herself walking into a recording booth. Then they proceeded to lose their minds even more when it seemingly appeared that she was collaborating with Ernest and Ella Langley on the project.

Today, we have our answers as to what all this means. Briley King was not pulling our legs; in fact, she recorded a cover of the Vicki Lawrence classic “The Night The Lights Went Out In Georgia,” and she is gifting it to fans on October 1st. Helping her out on the tune is her husband and his talented band, The Marcus King Band, and Ella Langley is backing her up on the harmonies.

“10.01.25 – The Night The Lights Went Out in Georgia, featuring the Marcus King Band. Harmonies by my sister, Ella Langley.”

LET’S GO. That was a lot of talent in one room to record this debut single from Briley King.

Ahead of announcing the single this morning, September 23rd, the couple hit the stage at the Grand Ole Opry last night, the 22nd, to perform their viral hit. Briley King pulled a Taylor Swift move and planted an Easter Egg for the single announcement, sporting the same lampshade get-up that she’s wearing in the tune’s cover art.

Briley King is known for having a quirky yet fun style, and while some did not see the vision on stage last night, as per the comments section, she was thinking about it from a broader perspective. I think this look is genius, given the song’s title. It also gives a slight nod to the iconic leg lamp from A Christmas Story, which everyone knows and loves.

This performance from the Grand Ole Opry has me fired up to hear the studio cut on October 1st. Check it out:

Without the original recording from Vicki Lawrence, we would not be able to enjoy covers from Reba and soon Briley King, so fire that up while you’re here:
