Black Bear & Connecticut Man Simultaneously Scare The Heck Out Of Each Other

Of all the things that could scare you as you come around a corner, wouldn’t you say that running into a black bear has to be the most terrifying possibility?
The Connecticut man in this video by the name of David Wolfert was just walking in his backyard when he had a wild run-in with one of nature’s fiercest apex predators. I’m sure you all have heard the age old saying of “they’re more afraid of us than we are of them.” For the most part, that’s true… but in this video, the saying that would more accurately represent what happened would be “they’re just as scared, or equally scared, of us than we are of them.”
Security camera footage captured the man casually walking around the corner of his home, as one would do when they aren’t expecting to come face-to-face with a wild animal. He was then stunned to see a black bear wandering right around the edge of the structure at the exact same time. The good news for Mr. Wolfert was that the bruin was just as shocked to see him, and the man and the wild animal went sprinting in opposite directions as fast as they could.
Wolfert pointed out to The Trumbull Times that both he and the bear had incredibly cartoonish reactions to the terrifying encounter:
“I did a day’s worth of cardio in about 30 seconds. My heart was just pounding. He and I both did the same exact thing, which was even funnier… it was like a cartoon.”
After Wolfert and the animal ran into each other, the Connecticut man retreated a bit back towards his home (if it were really a cartoon, he would have ran inside and padlocked his door upwards of 20 different times, then expeditiously boarded up his door with 2×4’s). And you would think that’s where the story concluded… but the run-in with the black bear had a bit of a sequel.
Once again, it seems as though the bear and the man were on the same wavelengths. For some strange reason, Wolfert started to inch around the corner for a second time, and sure enough, the sizable bear was right there doing the same. This time, the pair both skipped out on the cartoonish reactions. The man just took a step back and the black bear proceeded on the route it originally intended to.

All that was missing from that clip was the comical audio that plays when Scooby Doo tries to run away.
The second visit at the corner may be the best part of the video, though the initial moment they both scared the sh*t out of each other is phenomenal in its own right. Wolfert is glad that people have been able to get a good laugh from his close call, and tried to use the incident as a learning lesson for others in his West Hartford, Connecticut community:
“I just tell people, stay vigilant. Just know your surroundings. Don’t be talking on your phone if you’re in your backyard. It’s a small price to pay to live in a great town like West Hartford.”The post Black Bear & Connecticut Man Simultaneously Scare The Heck Out Of Each Other first appeared on Whiskey Riff.
