Axel Disasi approached by Chelsea’s Champions League rivals as Blues face loss on £38million signing

Villarreal have approached Chelsea centre-back Axel Disasi regarding a summer switch to Spain, talkSPORT understands. The 27-year-old is available for sale this summer, two years after he joined the Blues from Monaco in a £38million deal in August 2023. Disasi scored on his debut for the west Londoners in their 1-1 draw at home to Liverpool on the opening weekend of the 2023/24 season. He featured 44 times in all competitions under Mauricio Pochettino and netted a total of three goals. However, Disasi became an irregular feature in the Chelsea defence upon the arrival of Enzo Maresca as their head coach. The Frenchman started all six of their league phases matches in the UEFA Conference League, but made only four Premier League starts. Disasi was then shipped off on loan to Aston Villa for the second half of the 2024/25 campaign, for whom he made ten outings. Maresca did not select him in Chelsea’s squad for the Club World Cup, with Raheem Sterling and Ben Chilwell also notable absentees. Tosin Adarabioyo, Aaron Anselmino, Benoit Badiashile, Levi Colwill, Trevoh Chalobah, and Mamadou Sarr were the chosen centre-backs. Chelsea also have Wesley Fofana, but he has been sidelined with a hamstring injury and not played since March. It remains to be seen if the Blues will sign a new centre-back option if Disasi leaves Stamford Bridge. The Brazilian starlet typically plays as a winger, but is understood to be keen on playing in the No.10 role next season. The Ecuadorian hasn’t been informed of a loan to Strasbourg next season, but talkSPORT understands this is a realistic possibility.
