WATCH: Greedy Red Angus Calf Goes Viral For Diving Neck-Deep Into A Hay Bale

Making sure he got his snack.

Farmers and ranchers know that while the work of their profession is not for the weak, the animals that they work with at least provide some comedic relief that makes the challenging moments feel a little lighter. Whether it’s horses, cows, or pigs, they all have personalities that come out and can leave you in a fit of laughter.

A fifth-generation working cattle ranch in Missouri, Albaugh Ranch, which raises Native Shorthorn, Red Angus, and sheep, is giving viewers a glimpse into moments that make ranching more enjoyable. Albaugh Ranch often shares funny moments from their herd with a dry sense of humor, and one of their latest post has taken the internet by storm.

In their most recent viral post, they are sharing how greedy their young calves can be at times. Earning over 2.3 million views in 48 hours, one of their Red Angus calves was desperate to get a snack and broke through an electric fence to take a bite out of a giant hay bale that would be given to the herd at a later date.

Albaugh Ranch wrote in the caption of the post:

“Anyone who has electric fence know… it’s hard to keep calves in sometimes. This calf took matters into their own hooves and decided to sample tomorrow’s bale. Greed and a hungry calf… they know no bounds.”

In the video, you can’t even see the head of this calf because it has completely inserted itself into the middle of the hay bale to gorge itself with the delicious dried forage. I think if the calf could have fully put its body into the bale, it would have tried, but since that wasn’t feasible, its head and neck were the next best thing. The ranch owner hilariously added to that note with an on-screen caption that read:

“This is the greed they talk about in the Bible.”

The comments quickly took off on this post, and they did not disappoint:

“It’s like cinnamon rolls. The middle is the best part.”

“Just a bite.”

“I’m talkin’ bout INNNNIT.”

“Are they still breathing, are they ok?”

“How long before she ate all the way through?”

“I mean, if someone put a giant cinnamon roll in front of me.”

“Or they are trying to go into another dimension.”

After the video began to gain traction, one user left a comment noting that all the other young cows were looking at the cameraman, suggesting the rancher was most likely feeding them calf cubes. A calf cube is a supplement meant to help compensate for the deficiencies of hay or pasture, all for a piece of hay.

For those wondering…the calf cube would have been a more filling snack than the hay bale, but this young cow was determined to get his fix of hay.

Albaugh Ranch replied that their calf had zero regrets about gorging itself on the hay bale, and then showed yet another video of the culprit snacking on more hay.
