Tyler Childers Releases Awesome Live Performance Video Of “Dirty Ought Trill”
Live from GEODIS park.
Tyler Childers has been releasing live videos from his 2025 On the Road tour, and this week, he released another great one of “Dirty Ought Trill,” from his recent Snipe Hunter album, which was filmed at his Nashville concert at GEODIS park.
And if the title of that song is intriguing, it should be, and Tyler previously told GQ a little bit about the inspiration behind it.
He explained that “Trill” is a nickname for his friend Dylan, who is also mentioned on “Poachers,” whom he met several years ago at a hotel in Nashville.
Tyler was busted for weed in Texas in 2019, and the cops that got him that day used Malinois dogs to smell out the drugs. Tyler told himself that, if he got out of that mess without any jail time, he would get a dog just like that, and he eventually did just that.
On a trip to Nashville, Tyler brought his dog, and Dylan was working at the hotel as a valet. They got to talking, and Tyler learned that Dylan breeds Malinois dogs, and the became fast friends after bonding over that.
They hunted together, though considering Dylan grew up in the city, it was certainly a new experience, though Tyler explained that they were simply:
“Shooting clay pigeons and riding mules and doing hillbilly s***.”
Even though it was his first time experiencing that kind of thing, Dylan got an incredible shot with a .30-06 Springfield rifle, also known as a thirty ought six, and Tyler swapped thirty for dirty, and the nickname has stuck with Dylan ever since. A pretty bad*** nickname for a city boy, if I may say so myself…
Tyler explained that Dylan was the first friend he’d made in a long time, doesn’t know anything about country music, which is probably a good thing for their friendship:
“Dylan’s the first friend I’ve made in a while, and he doesn’t know me from Adam. He doesn’t know anything about country music. And I would have never met him if I hadn’t gotten a Malinois. Little things can change everything.”
Amen to that…
In general, Snipe Hunter has been a huge success both commercially and critically.
Upon its release, the Rick Rubin-produced album debuted at #7 on the all-genre Billboard 200 albums chart, along with a #1 entry on their Americana/Folk Albums chart and a #2 entry on their Top Country Albums list.
Back in November, he scored not one but three Grammy nominations for Best Contemporary Country Album, Best Country Song (“Bitin’ List”) and Best Country Solo Performance (“Nose On The Grindstone”). Finally, the record not only topped Rolling Stone’s Best Country/Americana Albums ranking but also was named their 7th-best album of the year, all-genre.
Of course, many of you know that nothing compares to a Tyler Childers live show, so you can probably imagine how good this live performance video is… but you should definitely check it out below, too:
